KC Metro Area Hospitals
Bethany Medical Center (KCKS) Closed in 2001
Bethany Medical Center was established by the Methodist
Church in 1892. The building at 21 N 12th St. Kansas City KS 66102
was a 400 bed 10 story hospital. The hospital
had several wings built in 1905, 1911, 1922 (Nursing School), 1957 (West Wing),
1968 addition, 1976 (South Wing) and 1986 (Medical Office Building and
underground parking). Soaring costs and
financial difficulty resulted in the sale of Bethany to Columbia/HCA in 1996. In
1997 Columbia/HCA split and restructured resulting in the sale of Bethany to Providence
Health Center (Catholic Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth KS) in 1997. Bethany closed permanently in 2001. The complex, with the exception of the
Medical Office Building, was demolished in 2004.
